Epilogue : The Return
Crossing Chang La 5425 m (17,799 ft) one last time
Roads start to deteriorate as we push towards Taglang-La...with an ever present danger of landslides
Our primary destination is Pang
Taglang-La climb - at 17,852 ft is said to be the second highest motorable pass in this world
Prayer flags at Taglang-La
The famous Moore plains ( approx 15,400 ft ASL ) Towards my right a sand whirlwind is beginning to form speeding our departure - still we were caught in the sand storm
Sand mountains of Ladhak
cool cloud formation
Pang - at a height of approx 15,600 ft is the highest transit camp in the world - Camp consist of few parachute tents in addition to an army base
Surrounded by sand mountains on all sides , Pang can not only give you a claustrophobic feeling , but at the same time intimidate you - need to experience it to understand it

Made a crucial decision to push for Sarchu - if we fail to reach Sarchu before night fall then things could be bad - very bad !
Ashok and Ajay replenishing our water supply
Through one of the most challenging ....
and intimidating section of our journey
driving through this terrain we realized how small and powerless we were against the mighty Himalayas
" The Land is so barren & the passes so high that only our fiercest enemies or our best friends would want to visit us". Ladakhi Saying
Forget crossing , don't want to be around when this stream swells up
With dying daylight we finally made it to Sarchu. At approx 14,100 ft second highest transit camp on on Leh-Manali route
The temperature went sub zero last night and freezing winds howling against our tents through out the night gave us some anxious moments
Have we reached Heaven ....at last !

Amazing view of the great Himalayas - ( Himalay ki Godi mein )
The Splendor never ends ...
neither does the danger
its always present in a different form.
on Cloud # 9
a wonderful place
Gods must have really taken their time to create this place
but don't let the beauty make you careless
True heroes who navigate these unforgiving terrains with an heavy load and a cabin exposed to the elements. Cheers to our truck drivers.
Hats off to BRO for making the impossible - Possible - 3 cheers to BRO
in a bliss
I just touched the sky and went above it too !
Keylong - the first signs that the journey is coming to an end.
What wouldn't I give to stay forever under this towering Himalayan range.
With happiness and sadness we head towards Manali - the last crucial pass (the Rohtang 13,200 ft asl) lies between us - however Rohtang now seems insignificant when compared to what we faced and experienced on this memorable trip......... So long.........
This journey ends here , thanks for traveling with me
